Once i mixed the paint and fabric medium i just applied the mixture with a sponge brush.
I love taking a pattern from a pillow or even trying to recreate the same pattern from a very expensive rug.
Alternatively you can fill a spray bottle with water and use it to slightly dampen the rug before painting.
The color is amazing.
Usually images are created externally to ark and then loaded into the canvas as the quality is much better.
I should mention i tried this and applying it with a paint brush was a huge hassle.
The first mistake is to use the wrong style of carpet rug painting works best with a short pile or even looped carpet.
Add more coats as desired.
I didn t want a solid red rug.
Do not just go to the scrap pile of a carpet store the odds and ends that are usually small off cuts from jobs that the customers do not wish to keep.
After placing it you can doodle on it with a paintbrush or load a custom image into it.
For the ultimate quality and softness choose a wool shag rug.

So i have a shag rug and i started your process yesterday.
The rug i painted is an indoor outdoor rug so it was stiff to begin with and the paint did not significantly change the texture.
If you plan to paint your rug in sections i would still dilute the paint with floetrol and try painting it with a paintbrush.
Polyester shag rugs are another option.
It took me three hours to complete a 2 foot section.
